Fora Recommends: What to do after work in Fitzrovia

October 2019

Fitzrovia is awash with advertising, communications and architectural businesses. And luckily for the hard workers, there are plenty of ways to let off steam come 6pm.

Nestled between the glittering West End and artsy Clerkenwell, Fitzrovia is the sweet spot for London culture. That’s why it’s a haven for after-work activities. Here’s some inspiration for what to do around Fitzrovia, Bloomsbury and Marylebone after you’ve clocked off.

British Museum

Delve into human history on the outskirts of Bloomsbury at the British Museum. It holds a collection of art and antiques from diverse cultures and ancient civilisations. It’s also a treat just to visit one of the UK’s architectural landmarks. Head down on a Friday evening – it’s open later, until 8:30pm.

Dominion Theatre

Just down the road from Goodge Street, by Tottenham Court Road, is Dominion Theatre. It’s reopening after refurbishment and has a great line-up of shows, including Big, Irving Berlin’s White Christmas and The Prince of Egypt. Book a ticket and enjoy an evening of top entertainment.

TJ Boulting Gallery

Fitzrovia has lots of galleries. Our favourite? TJ Boulting – named after the landmark Arts & Crafts building it’s based in. It’s just a five-minute walk from Great Portland Street and hosts a range of exhibitions throughout the year and is open until 6pm, making it easy to wander around for an hour after 5pm.

RIBA Building

The Royal Institute of British Architects is a must-visit, whether you’re an architect or simply a lover of great design. Just a short walk from Fitzrovia will see you marvelling at the Art Deco architecture of 66 Portland Place, Marylebone – also known as RIBA HQ. Book yourself in for a guided tour to learn more about the building. Or take it easy with a quick walk around followed by a drink in the bar.

Pollocks Toy Museum

If you’ve got spare time during the day, release your inner child at this weird and wonderful museum and shop, right by Goodge Street. Wind your way around six small rooms brimming with Victorian toys. It’s a great way to spend a lunch break.
