Giles Whittell, Deputy Editor-in-Chief, The Observer Giles Whittell is Deputy Editor-in-Chief at The Observer, having previously been an Editor and Partner at Tortoise Media. Prior to joining Tortoise, Giles held multiple positions at The Times, most recently as Chief Leader Writer, and before that as Washington Bureau Chief (1999-2002), and US West Coast Correspondent (1993-1999). He has authored five books, including Bridge of Spies, a New York Times bestselling account of the Cold War spy swap.
Barney Macintyre, Business News Editor, The Observer Barney Macintyre is a business reporter for The Observer and the author of the Boardroom Sensemaker newsletter. He previously covered business and environment for Tortoise.
Patricia Clarke, Technology Reporter, The Observer Patricia Clarke reports on the ways emerging technologies are reshaping lives, business and power. Her work has earned multiple accolades, including a 2024 Wincott Award for her investigation into boardroom battles at OpenAI.

Zing Tsjeng is an author, journalist, documentary host and podcaster. She co-hosts the BBC podcast Good, Bad, Billionaire with the BBC's Business Editor Simon Jack. She has written for publications such as British Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, TimeOut London and more. As a presenter Zing has helmed VICE's award-winning sex and dating podcasting My First Time as well as the BBC Podcast United Zingdom, which the Guardian named as one of the best podcasts of 2020. She has launched the award-winning millennial women's website Broadly in 2014 and the online news desk at Dazed as its first News Editor. In 2018, Octopus published her four-book series Forgotten Women, which explores the untold stories of inspiring women who have been marginalised from history.
