Between The Covers returns! Come for the books, stay for the book chat.

This month works slightly differently. We’ve been reading a book together: Wild Dark Shore. The evening will centre around an informal group chat about this psychological and climate thriller. Thoughts, feelings, questions and half-formed ideas all welcome. You don’t need to have finished it to take part.

What to bring
If you have read Wild Dark Shore:
• Your opinions
• One book to swap. A book you’re ready to pass on to its next reader. That’s it.

If you haven’t read Wild Dark Shore, or you’re new to the club:
No problem at all. Just bring
• A book you love and would recommend (this one is not swapped)
• A book to swap

How the evening runs
We’ll start with a relaxed intro to Wild Dark Shore. Then we’ll break into small groups for deeper book chats before moving on to the now famous book swap, with our swap books laid out on the communal table. As always, there’ll be plenty of side-chat, recs and literary matchmaking along the way. You’ll leave with something new to read.

New to the club
Perfect. This is an easygoing evening of chat, laughter and books changing hands. It’s open to anyone who loves books and good company. Members, friends, partners, neighbours. If you’re ready to bring more reading into your life, this is a very good place to start.

The Book
Wild Dark Shore by Charlotte McConaghy

In the near future, Dominic Salt and his three children are caretakers of Shearwater, a remote island off Antarctica and home to the world’s largest seed bank. Once full of researchers, Shearwater has been abandoned as sea levels rise, leaving the Salts its final inhabitants. Until, during a violent storm, a woman mysteriously washes ashore. As the family nurse her back to health, it becomes clear she isn’t telling the whole truth. But then, neither are they.
With the sea threatening to swallow the island, the novel moves between psychological thriller and an ode to the natural world, driven by the impossible choices people make to protect who and what they love.
