Fora’s guide to Shoreditch

Creativity infuses every aspect of the working week in this fashionable neighbourhood – from lunchtime gallery-hopping and boutique-shopping to renowned restaurants and bars come evening.

Shape your day in Shoreditch

An ultra-cool music, fashion and art hub, Shoreditch pulses with creativity. Progressive spots to eat, drink and shop orbit Old Street’s Silicon Roundabout, so-called because tech giants and disruptive start-ups have made it their home. This coveted east London neighbourhood has great transport links, while cutting-edge culture provides the inspiration you need to take your working week to the next level.

9am: Where to start

Begin the day with breakfast on Boundary Street, either with one of Dishoom’s famous bacon naan rolls (a plant-based alternative is also available) or at Boundary Bar & Brasserie, where full English fry-ups share menu space with towers of French toast and Reuben sandwiches. Or if you want to grab a coffee to go, make your way to Redchurch Street and trendy espresso bar Allpress. A few doors down, much-loved bakery Jolene sells the perfect pastry accompaniment, from savoury sausage rolls to decadent Danishes.

Or you might decide to give your energy levels a boost before getting down to business with a session in the on-site gym at Montacute Yards.

12pm: Out to lunch

Shoreditch is home to fantastic independent labels and boutiques. Find locally designed jewellery, sustainable fashion, unique art and more at Boxpark Shoreditch, as well as quirky vintage shopping around the corner on Brick Lane. Flick through colourful tomes at Bookartbookshop or look at the limited-edition prints at Jealous London. Many of our workspaces feature curated artworks from here, so you know you’re in good company!

And for lunch? Butchies on Rivington Street makes some of the capital’s crunchiest buttermilk-fried chicken. Or for a more high-end option, book the set lunch menu at modern wine bar and restaurant Leroy on nearby Phipp Street. It’s ideal for sharing small plates with colleagues or clients.

3pm: Afternoon agenda

Explore White Collar Factory’s various amenities – from the games room to the roof terrace, this workspace overlooking Silicon Roundabout promises to disrupt traditional client entertaining.

Ever-sociable Shoreditch has a range of pubs for an afternoon outing with colleagues, including the Grade II-listed Singer Tavern, which has a hidden subterranean cocktail bar that’s available for private hire. And it’s not only about espresso at Old Street’s Ozone Coffee. Head here for creative cocktails and house-made sodas.

Of course, some days all you crave is to take some time out with a good book – which is where the comfortable library at Central Street comes in handy.

6pm: End of day

Whether you’ve met your deadline, closed a big deal or just feel the call of Shoreditch’s lively post-work crowd, there are endless places to raise a glass. If you’re working at Princelet Street, then you’re in luck; head to the roof terrace to toast to a day well spent.

Descend to atmospheric cellar bar TT Liquor or soak up the old-world glamour of Nightjar, where the cocktail menu roams from pre-Prohibition classics to contemporary creations.

Meanwhile, talented chefs continue to reshape the city’s dining scene. Nose-to-tail cooking is the order of the day at Manteca, where you’ll find an Italian-leaning menu featuring hand-rolled pasta dishes and wood-fired breads. And if you’re in the mood for sharing, the ‘all-in’ option at Blacklock is perfect for groups, with tasty nibbles followed by beef, pork and lamb chops all piled high on charcoal-grilled flatbreads.

To inject some culture into your evening, Rich Mix is a go-to destination for new-release movies and indie films, as well as spoken word, music and theatre performances, and The Blues Kitchen on Curtain Road hosts soul and funk evenings that stretch well into the night.
