About your tutor

Shir Bar Tal's chess journey commenced at the age of six. Over the last 16 years, beginning from when she was 14, she has devoted herself to teaching chess, primarily to adults in recent years. Shir specialises in coaching CEOs, founders, investors, and tech professionals. Additionally, she is skilled in tournament preparation, assisting students in achieving an OTB (over-the-board) rating of 2,000, which denotes an expert level.

Shir received most of her professional training from Grandmaster Vitali Golod, former champion of Ukraine, which significantly shaped her coaching techniques and strategic insights.

She moved to London in 2020 to establish the London Chess Academy.

Teaching Philosophy: Shir views chess as a life-enhancing tool that teaches patience, focus, time management, decision-making, stress management, and graceful acceptance of defeat.
