Pride at Fora: Then and Now (Online)

Join Bimini and Professor Paul Baker for a look at the 'Then and Now' of LGBTQ+ activism. Hosted by VICE World News’ Ben Hunte.

Marking 50 years since the first UK Pride, this year, we’re looking back over the heritage and evolution of Pride; coming together to celebrate the progress made and the journey still to come.

Raising money for Opening Doors, the UK’s only dedicated charity providing activities, events, information and support services specifically for lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer, non-binary or gender fluid, LGBTQ+ people over 50.

Creating an open platform for conversation, sharing personal stories, the challenges, ideas and innovations for the future of the LGBTQ+ community.

Drag Queen, author, model and star of Ru Paul's Drag Race UK, Bimini, is joined by Professor Paul Baker - British professor and linguist at the Department of Linguistics and English Language of Lancaster University - for this riveting panel discussion. Hosted by Ben Hunte, senior reporter for VICE World News, this exciting panel will be joining forces to gain insight and delve into the world of LGBTQ+ activism over the past 50 years.

From Bimini’s future-take, through their hilarious and inspiring guide to transforming your life through lessons from drag, to Professor Baker’s personal and impassioned history of the infamous Section 28, the 1988 UK law, banning the teaching “of the acceptability of homosexuality”. Brought to life through Ben Hunte’s unique interview style and background investigating the stories of LGBTQ+ people, race and inequality across the world. This is a conversation not to be missed.
