Purposeful Curiosity: How asking the right questions will change your life
Costas Andriopoulos is a Professor of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Bayes Business School. He spent five years interviewing a wide range of people at the top of their game - from Formula One Engineers to opera singers, polar and space explorers to Michelin-starred chefs - asking each interviewee how they channelled their curiosity, how to cut through the noise of distraction to stay focused on their mission, and how to build up resilience to keep going in the face of failure and setbacks.
In this talk (and his new book), Costas reveals the gripping insights and advice from these interviews, combined with cutting-edge research from psychology, neuroscience, management, history, sociology, AI and anthropology. He demonstrates how 'purposeful curiosity' can challenge the status quo, and shows how we can all benefit from this new way of thinking. Curiosity—the urge to know, to see, or to experience—is what motivates information-seeking behaviour. This powerful drive has long been associated with positive emotions, lower levels of anxiety, strengthened relationships, achievement, and longevity.
Packed with practical tools, alongside this fascinating narrative, his book offers a purposeful curiosity masterclass in nine lessons. Costas Andriopoulos says: “I hope that by distilling key lessons from uber-curious individuals and sharing their insights, tips and stories, I will start a movement around the power of curiosity. I want to inspire you to realise what you are truly capable of and go for it. Now!”
Come along, grab a drink, and let's discuss curiosity and creativity with plenty of time for questions from the curious, and some innovative thinking.
