Fora’s guide to London Bridge
Immerse yourself in the capital’s world-famous food market, enjoy Thames views while you work and inject inspiration into your day at nearby art and theatre venues.
Shape your day in London Bridge
Situated south of the river, this vibrant Thameside neighbourhood embraces its storied past while cutting-edge cultural attractions celebrate contemporary art, theatre and music. Join the global creative agencies and media titles who call this area home and add gallery visits and theatre performances to your weekly agenda. And when it’s time for lunch, Borough Market and a range of food stalls are on the doorstep.
9am: Where to start
Begin the day in Borough Market and discover how your morning coffee can help improve people's lives. The Colombian Coffee Company is a social enterprise that supports communities in Colombia and takes a sustainable approach to sourcing single-origin beans, while coffee cart, Change Please provides people experiencing homelessness with training to become talented baristas.
And for something to eat, family-run Terry’s Café on Great Suffolk Street has a loyal local following thanks to its hearty breakfasts, all-day brunch and takeaway sandwiches.
Before you start opening your emails, enjoy a rush of endorphins with a workout at 180 Borough High Street’s gym before freshening up in the fully stocked showers.
12pm: Out to lunch
If you want to boost your energy levels during the day, an invigorating walk around the neighbourhood reveals endless intriguing sights. On Bankside, there’s the Golden Hinde – a grand galleon moored near the ruins of the 12th-century Winchester Palace – and Shakespeare’s Globe. For something a little more contemporary, head to nearby White Cube – a world-leading gallery that’s guaranteed to get you thinking. Alternatively, the roof garden at our 201 Borough High Street workspace offers a slice of serenity above the bustling area.
Proximity to Borough Market means lunch options abound – not to mention the chance to pick up delicious ingredients for dinner. BAO is a favourite thanks to its pillow-soft buns with flavour-packed fillings like fried chicken or cold smoked aubergine, while Rambutan serves fragrant Sri Lankan fare and is run by the first Tamil woman to open a restaurant in London.
3pm: Afternoon agenda
Knowing where to take clients for an off-site meeting is an art. Nail the brief with a trip to Roast in Borough Market, which serves an impressive afternoon tea featuring with sandwiches, buttermilk scones and a selection of teas and Champagne.
Just moments from London Bridge station sits El Vino: a stylish Italian wine bar and restaurant that welcomes group bookings on its heated outdoor terrace. Speaking of terraces, another excellent option for a more intimate group is Bar Douro, sitting pretty under a railway arch and serving up authentic Portuguese food and wine.
And if you’re hosting a larger event, 180 Borough High Street’s top-floor event space makes for a memorable occasion, with its double-height ceilings, bar and outdoor area.
6pm: End of day
If you’re already in our workspace in The Shard, pop up a few floors to Hutong, which pairs epic views and sophisticated surroundings with flavourful northern Chinese dishes and has four eye-catching private dining rooms. For something a little different, then you’re bound to impress your guest at Kanpai, the UK’s first sake brewery. Tables for walk-ins are usually available from Wednesday to Sunday (but you can also book), and the friendly staff are more than happy to take you through this fascinating Japanese drink that is brewed like a beer but enjoyed like a wine.
To truly take your pick of the world’s cuisines, Mercato Metropolitano is just south of Borough station. Its selection of street-food kitchens, on-site craft beer brewery and communal tables are the backdrop to a packed calendar of events, including live music performances and film screenings.
Our Borough Yards workspace is seconds from the luxurious two-screen Everyman Cinema, while you’re just minutes away from world-famous cultural institutions like the National Theatre and the Southbank Centre. Southwark Playhouse – with locations in Borough and Southwark –is beloved among audiences for championing exciting new work including laugh-a-minute musicals, comedy gigs and bold plays.
