Since 1666, people have been trading at Old Spitalfields Market. And like a great wine or cheese, we like to think it has only got better with age. Here are our favourite stalls at this East London home of artisans and connoisseurs.
After years of working at the best duck farms in the UK, owners Ed and Vernon have set up their own ode to the lesser-eaten poultry in Spitalfields. It’s a truck serving duck dishes packed full of flavour. Go for a classic wrap with all the trimmings or mix it up with a brioche bun served with Asian slaw.
For a proper Neapolitan pizza in the City of London, put your order in at Sud Italia. The blue van has its own pizza oven and you can expect them to be light and crispy. Try the Zucca, topped with pumpkin, gorgonzola and pecorino.
Fried fish but not as you known it – that’s the thinking behind Lisca. It’s all fresh and served up Mediterranean-style, making it some of the best fish and seafood in East London. Plus, it’s 100% gluten and dairy free.
If you’re after something vegan in Spitalfields, try out Thousand Knives. It’s Japanese street food at its best, with umami flavours and nutritious ingredients. Not all their dishes are vegan, but a really good selection of them are.
Bringing Turkish favourites to Liverpool Street, Ebby’s Kitchen keeps things simple with its egg-free and breadcrumb-free köftes. Humous, halloumi and colourful salads top everything off nicely.
If you’ve got a sweet tooth, Donovan’s Bakehouse is the answer in Old Spitalfields Market. One of its jam or Nutella doughnuts should hit the spot. We also recommend heading over on Friday or Saturday to get your fresh sourdough for the weekend.
Two of our workspaces are within a five-minute walk of Old Spitalfields market, and we provide the ultimate breakout spaces where you can sit to enjoy your lunch. Come and see us for a tour – we’d be happy to show you around.
