Fora Recommends: The best lunch spots in Reading
Reading is more than just a tech hub – it’s becoming quite the foodie hub, too. When you’re in the area for business, treat your taste buds at our favourite lunch spots.
Whether you need an on-the-go sandwich or a blowout meal to impress a client, take our lead. We’ve come to know Reading very well and are always happy to recommend these few lunchtime gems. Shed Shed is like a comforting hug on a blustery day. We’re not sure whether it’s the oak beams, exposed brickwork or the brie, bacon and cranberry toastie. Or perhaps it’s all the homemade bakes. If you’re after a good, hearty sandwich, this is your lunch spot. It’s about 100 yards from our Thames Toweroffice, so an easy option too. Nibsys Nibsy’s is a rare place where people who are gluten intolerant are spoilt for choice. Once you’ve got your nutrition from a soup or salad, take your time choosing from the big cake list. Head to Broad Street from Reading Stationand you’ll see the café along Cross Street. CHOW &Blue Collar Street Food On Wednesdays and Fridays, street food stalls take over Market Place. There are a number of stalls selling food from around the world. We love it for vegan food – there’s always something delicious and lovingly made on offer. Lots of our Thames Towermembers bring their lunch from the market back to the office to enjoy it in our sky garden or a comfy seat. Bel & The Dragon Whenever a client comes to visit, the Bel & Dragon is a great place to host them for lunch. It’s a lovely gourmet pub, and there’s a riverboat restaurant too if you want a really exclusive setting. This is the place if you’re going all out with a sit-down meal. If feels really tucked away, but it’s actually only a 15-minute walk from Reading Station. Zero Degrees We’re told there are four of these microbreweries in the UK, but we’re pleased they chose Reading for one of their ventures. It brews its own beer on site and serves up the kind of food you want eat while you sup away – pizzas, pastas and sharing platters. Make sure your afternoon isn’t too busy if you want to sample the beers. All of these lunch spots are within a 15-minute walk from our Thames Toweroffice. We’re just opposite Reading Station, so feel free to come and have a look next time you’re in town.
