How do you ‘restore’? We asked our Residents what they do to recalibrate and find balance

How do you find the wellbeing resources and initiatives at work?
Very consistent. At Fora, there are places that I know I can always go to restore. There are also wellness activities taking place all the time which help me to recharge. Especially the meditation session every Friday here at Fora – Central Street.

Who or what helps to restore your confidence?
It’s a combination of things. I would say mainly my friends; whether that’s a quick phone call or an enduring lunch. It also helps to touch base with myself during meditation.

Which track do you listen to to restore your positivity?
Random music – the more random, the better. I have an eclectic music selection and I like to play music roulette, it’s less predictable.


What food do you eat to restore your energy?
I always try to have salad where I can to prevent the afternoon slump. So I’m usually making my own version of a superfood salad, which means whatever is in my fridge mixed with long-stem broccoli (always), sesame seeds, pine nuts, and always the balsamic vinegar and olive oil supplied by Fora.

What do you do to Restore balance?
I meditate every day. Whether it’s for 5 minutes or 20 minutes, meditation will always help me ground myself. Otherwise, walking. That’s the best way to see the city, to take it on. It’s also the best way to remember why you’re here, what’s going on and where you really are in your head.

Where do you go to restore?
Green areas. Luckily, London is full of parks and there is always one close to Fora. The only location I couldn’t find one is Fitzrovia, so I found a pretty church courtyard instead – you know one of those secret little places that people don’t really know about. If it’s pouring down with rain, the reading room at Fora – Central Street is always peaceful. I find it ideal to restore balance, especially in a hectic day.

How do you find the wellbeing resources and initiatives at work?
Great! We have a wellness app and many on-site workout zones. It feels like there is always something going on like yoga or healthy breakfasts at Fora. But I find it also in the smaller things. For instance, they change the flowers every day so we have fresh, beautiful flowers all the time and that’s the kind of thing that makes me really happy.

Who or what helps to restore your confidence?
My sister and my two best friends. I can give them a call anytime. They are always there to remind me how I should be more confident, and of the positive things they know about me.



Which track do you listen to to restore your positivity?
All sorts. I have loads of playlist for this. From 70s classics all the way through to today’s hits. But my ultimate restore-your-mood artist is probably Tina Turner, she’s my fave!

What food do you eat to restore your energy?
I’m a bit naughty when it comes to this… Pasta, biscuits, nothing particularly healthy.

What do you do to Restore balance?
I have quite a few rituals: From simply being at home and lighting a candle; to taking 10 minutes to just breathe; all the way to yoga and meditation classes. I try to do the classes regularly just to keep up my general balance. But if it’s been a tough day, I’ll certainly light a candle and just breathe.

Where do you go to restore?
I grew up in the middle of nowhere in Wales. It’s really quiet, really beautiful and completely silent and dark at night. When I’m really in need of balance, I go back there.

How do you find the wellbeing resources and initiatives at work?
Fora is really good when it comes to wellness. We’ve got the gym downstairs, the reading room, regular wellness classes, smoothies and fresh tea. But for me wellness also comes in the form of the team. The staff here are really great and amazing sounding boards. Every now and then they are just here to remind me not to stress, to take the pressure off and to say ‘keep going’. They help to ease my mind.

Who or what helps to restore your confidence?
I’m pretty good at picking myself up. I know when I’m down, so I go and do activities that I know will really pick my spirit up like meeting friends, working out or cooking.

Which track do you listen to to restore your positivity?
It really depends on my mood. If I just want to destress, I love some really cool acoustic tracks. If I want to be productive or vent, it’s going to sound weird but I listen to Metallica or Collective Soul – they just get my brain moving. And if I’m really energised and ready to hit up a meeting, I listen to upbeat rock tracks that get me going. If I’m really frustrated, then it’s got to be a chick flick, bubbles or gin, and pizza. 


What food do you eat to restore your energy?
Chocolate is my go-to. But in terms of health and fitness, nuts and fruits are really big for me. 

What do you do to Restore balance?
Bikram yoga really helps me get aligned mentally and physically. After sweating away for an hour and a half in the heat, when I come out I’m really focused and ready to take on what’s in front of me.



Where do you go to restore?
Born in Fiji, I’m an Island girl at heart, thousands of miles away from the chaos of London life. Sand, sun, surf, sea and family – Fiji is my place to restore. Closer to London, it would be any place where you can appreciate the beauty of nature without tons of tourists!

How do you find the wellbeing resources and initiatives at work?
Every Friday I go to the breathing meditation session at Fora which is fantastic. Anyone who hasn’t tried it – please do. It just really restores me, lets me wind down from the week and sets me up for the new week totally refreshed. Plus, it’s a nice space to meet people.

Who or what helps to restore your confidence?
Myself I think. I feel I’m quite hard on myself most of the time but then when I step back and see the small victories that I’ve overcome, I’m able to tell myself “yep, I’ve done that.” To celebrate my own successes, to learn from them and to share them with my friends is my way to restore my confidence.

Which track do you listen to to restore your positivity?
It depends what mood I’m in and what mood I want to get myself into. If I really want to wind down and chill after a real though week, I listen to musical compositions like Nils Frahm. I just spin the record and it takes me away. On the flip side, I really love The Fall, the seminal band from Manchester. If I’m up against it or need to shake things off I’ll play ‘Hit the North’ – it just gets the blood pumping.

What food do you eat to restore your energy?
I always tend to carry a bag of almonds around with me – I have a thing for little snacks. Most of my main meals contain kale which I think gives me a little boost.

Where do you go to restore?
Ideally to the top of a cold mountain, although it’s not always practical in everyday life. I just love that altitude freedom, there is no other feeling like it.

What do you do to Restore balance?
Two main things. I exercise – it helps me focus on movement and the moment. I also switch off and meditate. It helps me to step out of myself and just think about the good things and the things that aren’t so good. Family and friends are really important. And laughter – you’ve got to laugh.

How do you find the wellbeing resources and initiatives at work?
For some people, wellness is all about going to the gym or being healthy but for me it’s more about finding my own space to be my true self. And I feel that I can be 100% me here.

Who or what helps to restore your confidence?
For me it’s music. It touches spots in my brain that really trigger my emotions. It gives me a boost and it lifts my mood.

Which track do you listen to to restore your positivity?
Workout remixes give me a big boost at the beginning of the day. I listen to them loud, with my headphones on. It gives a different vibe to my world.

What food do you eat to restore your energy?
Eating light food, easy to digest, helps me sleep better and wake up with a different kind of energy. I also love adding ginger and mint to my water. I find it perfect to recharge and get ready for the day.

What do you do to Restore balance?
I go on holidays in my home country. When I’m home and step back, I realise the importance and value of what I’m doing here in London. It somehow reinforces my decision of staying and my choices. So when I’m back I feel charged up, ready to go and smash the world.
